In Loving Memory of Treva Marie Dale (1944-2023)
Treva Marie (Hipsher) Dale, beloved by family and friends, passed away on June 15, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to Ralph, Anne, Greg and her grandchildren. Treva was an inspiring influence to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Treva grew up in Warren County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Pearl, a lifelong schoolteacher, and Howard, a farmer. She loved 4-H and helping out around the farm as a girl. During her 10+ years of 4-H involvement, she developed a passion for sewing, which would always be a part of her life. She graduated from Purdue University in 1966 where she majored in Home Economics and minored in Physical Education. It was at Purdue where she met her future husband, Ralph. They married a few days after her graduation and moved to Delaware to start their careers.
While teaching in New Castle Delaware, Anne and Greg were born and became her primary focus. Her family made their first move a few years later to Naperville, IL. It was there that Treva transitioned to teaching sewing to adults at a local Stretch & Sew Fabrics store. Her love of sewing and career ambitions led to a move to Terre Haute, IN. There she opened her own Stretch & Sew Fabrics store in 1978 while Ralph continued his work for Hercules Inc. She enjoyed managing the store, but loved the relationships she developed with employees and customers. She helped many friends ignite their own passion for sewing.
As Anne and Greg grew, she experienced three more family relocations and career moves. Those brought her full circle back to Terre Haute in order to be close to her daughter, their first grandchild, and old friends. Along her journey, she held a variety of managerial and sales positions. Both children followed in their parent’s footsteps to Purdue.
The rest of her years were spent with her children and 5 grandchildren every chance she had. She never missed a game, match, concert, or any event she could attend.
Treva is survived by her loving husband, Ralph, and her children, Anne and Greg. By her sister Janet and five grandchildren, other family, friends, and the many people she touched.
We will be gathering at the Terre Haute Country Club from 5 pm. to 7pm. on June 24th to say goodbye to Treva. We hope you can join us. It will be a time for reminiscing and celebrating all things Treva. Remembrances may be given to PEO, the Purdue College of Health and Human Sciences, the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity. She requested cremation and no traditional funeral, just family and friends sharing stories. That is somewhat unique, but then so was Treva.
