Theodore John “Ted” Brentlinger, 86, (K9 SGL is now a Silent Key) of Terre Haute passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 6, 2022. He was a teacher of Math and Science at Schulte High School, West Vigo High School, Booker T. Washington Alternative School and Gibault School. Ted was born July 23, 1936 in Terre Haute to Harry P. “Keeter” Brentlinger and Dorothy Hauer Brentlinger.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Carver Brentlinger; step-daughter, Caroline Carver Carpenter (Fred) of Conyers, GA; step-son, John M. Carver (Kim) of Austin, TX; brothers and sisters, Tony Brentlinger and Terry Brentlinger (Melita) of Terre Haute, Teresa Hayworth (Joe) of Prairieton, IN, and Trudy Longest (Mike) of Terre Haute; 6 step-grandchildren, Jessica, Kristen, Joanna, Thad, Brian (Taylor) and Seth; and 4 step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Erin Brentlinger, Abby Livers (Tim), Jared Brentlinger (Laura), Brad Brentlinger (Kelly), Libby Hayworth-Lenne, Brian Hayworth (Julie), Matt Newmister, Jesse Newmister (Margaret), Anne Newmister, Chris Longest (Allison) and Ryan Longest (Katrina); and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jerry Brentlinger.
Ted was a member of the first graduating class of Schulte High School. He attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and received his Bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University, a Master’s degree from Indiana State University and a 2 nd Master’s degree from DePauw University. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Ted was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and Catholic Lay Mission Corps (CLMC) serving as a missionary in Panama and Texas in the early 1960’s. After God, family and friends, Ted’s passion was amateur radio and was a member of the Wabash Valley Amateur Radio Club for much of his life.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, December 13, 2022 in St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 2405 South 7 th Street, with Father Ben Syberg officiating. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visitation is scheduled from Monday, Dec. 12 th from 5:00-7:00 PM in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 th Street, and also prior to services from 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon in St. Margaret Mary Church.
