Charles William Higginbotham

Charles William Higginbotham, 99, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday morning, March 6, 2021.  He was born July 7, 1921 in Terre Haute to Richard and Anna Higginbotham.

“Bill” is survived by his daughter, Debra Higginbotham.  His wife, Mary Ella Louise Stevenson Higginbotham, preceded him in death.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Panama during World War II.  After the war, he worked for the United States Secret Service Uniform Division.  Bill retired as Chief in 1978 after serving 29 years under 7 Presidents to include, President Truman through President Carter.

After retirement, Bill devoted his time to his church and family.  He was a member of the Masons and Terre Haute First Baptist Church.  Bill also gave talks at North Vigo High School’s U.S. Government classes regarding the White House and Presidents that he served.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 13, 2021 in First Baptist Church, 4701 Poplar Street, with Reverend John Campbell officiating.  Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 th Street.  If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 4701 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803.  Funeral information and tributes may be found at www.callahanandhughes.com .
