William Francis Thompson, 70, of Terre Haute died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born January 9, 1944 in Terre Haute to Robert Lincoln Thompson and Josephine Whalen Thompson. Survivors include his wife, Andrea "Andi" Thompson; two step-sons, Jeff Raissle of Carmel, IN and David Raissle and his wife Wendy of Verrado, AZ; one sister, Cookie Dooley and her husband Jerry of Terre Haute; one brother, Robert Thompson and his wife Marty of Terre Haute; two brothers-in-law, Larry Scheidler and his wife Anne of South Carolina and Tom Scheidler and his wife Lorrie of Terre Haute; one sister-in-law, Jane Grimes of Terre Haute; two step-grandchildren, Nolan and Parker Raissle; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Bill was an active member of St. Joseph University Parish. He graduated from ISU and got his PhD from the University of Arkansas. Bill taught at Eastern Illinois University for 30 years. He also served as Terre Haute Street Commissioner and was a city councilman for 17 years. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014 in St. Joseph University Parish with Friar Mark Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 20, 2014 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Joseph University Parish, Catholic Charities, or the charity of your choice.
