William P. Sheets

October 8, 1926 — February 8, 2016

William Bill P. Sheets, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away Monday evening, February 8, 2016. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the 181st Air National Guard unit at Hulman Field in 1986 with 42 years of service. Bill was in charge of the Avionics department responsible for the aircraft electronic systems and began when the unit was located at Stout Field, Indianapolis after serving in post-WWII Germany during the occupation. He was born October 8, 1926 in Merlin, Ontario, Canada to L. A. Sheets and Millie L. Sales Sheets.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Regina J. Smith Sheets; four children, Theresa Jackson and her husband, Arthur, of Terre Haute, Eric Sheets and his wife, Stephanie, of Greenwood, IN, Philip Sheets and his wife, Dr. Xu Jing Liu, of Carmel, IN and Karen Dakic and her husband, Strahinja, of Terre Haute; five grandsons, Clint Cartwright, Cody Sheets, Greg Sheets, Luke Sheets and Milovan Dakic; and one great-grandson, Luke Sheets. Also surviving is a sister, Norma Wright of Frankfort, IN; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Sheets and George Sheets; and a sister, Jean Davis.

Bill was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and was a member and Past Master of Terre Haute Lodge #19 F AM.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 13, 2016 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 215 North 7th Street, with The Reverend Drew Downs officiating. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 11:00 A.M. 1:00 P.M. in the church. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society, 1811 South Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803.
