William Francis George

William Francis George, 86, of Terre Haute passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in his residence. He was born June 10, 1927 in Terre Haute to Ralph George and Irene Richeson George. Bill was secretary-treasurer for Nichols Investment Corporation. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Jo Reid George; son, William Paul George and wife Eileen Manganaro of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Kathryn (Kathy) George of Terre Haute; daughter-in-law, Kathy Sackmaster George of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Sue Ferrier of Huntsville, AL; three grandchildren, Anna George and Helen George of St. Louis, MO and Brandon George and wife Stephanie of Birmingham, AL; and a cousin, Larry Joe Cox and wife Diane of Tampa, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Tom George. Bill was a 50 year member of the Noon Optimist Club, the Terre Haute Jaycees, B.P.O.E #86, the Aero Club, and Phi Sigma Epsilon. He was a 1945 graduate of Sullivan High School and graduated from Ball State University. Bill played for the 20 game undefeated football team at Ball State. He was an avid golfer and played in the Elks Golf League. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014 in Central Presbyterian Church, 125 N. 7th Street, Terre Haute, IN with Reverend Lant Davis officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, IN. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Noon Optimist Clothe-A-Child Project.
