William B. "Bill" Cook

William B. “Bill” Cook, 81, of Terre Haute passed away early Wednesday morning, December 2, 2020.  He was a Teacher and Athletic Director at Terre Haute North Vigo High School.  Bill was born January 8, 1939 in Terre Haute to Thomas W. Cook and Helen Jones Cook.  His wife, Joyce Hopewell Cook, preceded him in death on November 28, 2020.

Survivors include his daughter, Leslie Cook of Houston, TX;  his son, Warren Cook (Teresa) of New Castle, IN;  sister, Carol Cook of Terre Haute;  five grandchildren, Emily Cole (Kyle), Mackenzie Garreth, Madison Garreth, Anna Cook and Nathan Garreth;  a great-granddaughter, Kambree Cole;  and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bud Cook and George Cook;  and a sister, Jodie Cook.

Bill was a graduate of Wiley High School and received both his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from Indiana State University.  He served in the United States Army from 1959-1962 and married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Hopewell, in 1961.

Bill taught school starting at Otter Creek Jr. High School and then at Terre Haute North High School in 1976.  While at North, he taught Government and Economics and was an assistant basketball coach under Howard Sharpe.  In 1979, he became Athletic Director and served there until his retirement in 1999.  Bill was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and was awarded Sagamore of the Wabash by his friend and former State Representative, Clyde Kersey.
