Warren H. Gardiner, 93, of Terre Haute passed away Friday evening, May 16, 2014 in Davis Gardens Health Center. He was an Associate Professor of Business at Indiana State University where he taught at Laboratory School and was their golf coach for 27 years before his retirement. Warren was born October 31, 1920 in Loogootee, Indiana to Isaac Gardiner and Mary Williams Gardiner. Survivors include his wife, Brenda G. Miller Gardiner; his son, Donald Gardiner of Richton Park, IL; his daughter-in-law, Ann Gardiner of Tulsa, OK; two grandchildren; Duane Gardiner and his wife, April, of Houston, TX and Donna Jo Castleberry and her husband, David, of Tulsa, OK; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Gardiner and Ava Gardiner; a sister, Edna Yarnell of Shoals, IN; and a sister-in-law, Margaret "Mickey" Gardiner of Terre Haute. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews including Cheryl Benway and her husband, Michael, of Indiana and Norma Willyard and her husband, Carl, of Shoals, IN; several great-nieces & great-nephews including Kyle Willyard of Indiana; two step-daughters, Kendra Bidwell and her husband, Kevin, of Kentucky and Elizabeth Gummere and her husband, Paul, of Florida; and two step-sons, Bradley Stephen Miller and his wife, Mary, of Knoxville, TN and Lloyd R. Driggers and his wife, Priscilla, of Terre Haute. Warren is also survived by 9 step-grandchildren, Kyle Bidwell, Kenley Bidwell, Corey Thomas, Devin Miller, Dakota Miller, Hunter Miller, Christopher Gummere and his wife, Wendy, Toni Collier and her husband, John, and Dan Gummere and his wife, Angie; 5 step-great-grandchildren, Rochelle Gummere, Jonathan Collier, Jennifer Collier, Cameron Miller and Stephanie Driggers; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren, Dane Driggers and Emoni; and his caregiver, Stacey "Morning Glory" Zilinga. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Flossie Gardiner; his second wife, Frances E. Gardiner; two brothers, Wilbert Gardiner and Richard Gardiner; a sister, Ida Brown; a half-sister, Lula Harris; two half-brothers, Floyd Stanley and John Stanley; a granddaughter, Laurie Ann Gardiner; and a step-grandson, Wade Driggers. Warren was a 1953 graduate of I.S.U. with a B.S. degree in Education, received his M.S. degree in Education at I.S.U. in 1956 and studied post-graduate work Indiana University. He served on the Board of Directors of I.S.U. Credit Union for 20 years and was a member of Indiana State Teachers Association, Indiana Business Teachers Association and National Business Teachers Association. Warren was a past president of Indiana Retired Teachers Association and was very active with Meals on Wheels where he served as a past president and volunteered for many years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church where he participated in Bible Study and was a former treasurer of the church and served as a United States Naval Air Corps pilot during World War II having attained the rank of Lieutenant. Warren was also a long-time member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #86 where he enjoyed golfing in their golf leagues and was a member of I.S.U. Varsity Club. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 645 Poplar Street, with Pastor Jacob R. Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with Military Graveside Honors provided by VFW Post #972. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
