WALTER MARTIN PIEPENBRINK Walter Martin Piepenbrink, 90, of Terre Haute, was called home to His Lord on Sunday, October 6, 2013. He was born May 12, 1923 in Terre Haute to Theodore and Elizabeth Piepenbrink. Walt stayed the course in his faith, family, and work career. Walt served his Lord starting with his family. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church his entire 90 years. He was baptized, attended parochial school (8 grades), was confirmed (1936), married (1950) all at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Walt graduated from Gerstmeyer Tech High School (1940) and Indiana Business College (1942). Walt started his work career at 18 years of age with Smith Alsop/MAB Paint Company and ended his career 45 years later as Vice President of Purchasing and Facilities. Walt enjoyed bowling, golf, tennis, bike riding, working out, and many spectator sports. He particularly enjoyed cheering on his sons and granddaughters in their various sporting events and activities. Walt was inducted into the Indiana Bowling Hall of Fame in 1980. Walt was also known for his doll repair hobby. His unique artistic skills brought dolls from all over the country. He is survived by his wife, Loeva Piepenbrink, whom he married on June 8, 1950. Walt and Loeva enjoyed 63 wonderful years together. They have two sons Kenneth and James. Ken is married to Debbie; they have two daughters, Kari Leck (John) and Kristi Trotter (Nathan) and great grandson Eli Trotter. Jim is married to Sheryl; they have three daughters, Hanna, Rachel Hosking (Erik), and Sarah. Walt is also survived by two sisters, Charlotte Fischer and Norma Bucy; and several nieces and nephews. Walt was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Arthur Piepenbrink. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Jacob Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park following the service. Visitation is scheduled for 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street and from 10:00 to 11:00 Saturday at the church. The family kindly request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church (stained-glass window project), 645 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
