Walter Lawrence Thomas Anslinger (Nashville, TN)

Walter Lawrence Thomas Anslinger, of Nashville, TN and formerly of Terre Haute passed away early Friday morning, March 31, 2023.  Walt was born July 24, 1932 to Henry and Lauretta Anslinger in Evansville, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Mary (Market) Anslinger;  was loving father to Steve (Leisa) and Karen, and a grandfather to Mike Anslinger, Carrie (Anslinger) Edwards, and Isabella, Olivia, and Max Geraci,  Also mourning his passing will be son-in-law, Victor Geraci;  great grandchildren, Patrick and Cecilia Edwards; and will be remembered fondly by his brother, Wayne.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia;  a brother, Richard; and a sister, Dolores.  He will be missed by all of their families.

Walter served in the United States Army from 1955-1957.  He was a revered music teacher, band director, and school administrator, serving at Washington Catholic, Lincoln High School, Union City, and South Vigo High Schools; and West Vigo, Honey Creek and Woodrow Wilson Junior High Schools. Numerous alumni from his award-winning marching and jazz bands went on to study music, teach, and direct as a result of the love of music he instilled in them. He was an active member of St. Benedict Church in Terre Haute and served as a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He was often a member of the parish choir and served as interim choir director as needed. Walter and Pat were members of the Sycamore Club. Upon moving to Nashville, Walter joined St. Stephen Catholic Community near Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.

Walt was a wonderful husband, father, teacher, and friend who will be greatly missed by many.

All are invited to a visitation with family which will be held at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 ^th Street, from 4:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:05 PM, Wednesday, April 5 ^th in St. Benedict Church, 111 South 9 ^th Street, with Fr. Bob Showers officiating.  Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery.  A reception will follow.
