Virginia's Story
Virginia Rose Baird passed away peacefully in her sleep in Terre Haute, on July 23. She was 96.
Virginia was born January 13, 1922, in Vincennes, Indiana to Elbert and Edythe Rasico Johnson. During World War II, she moved to Washington, D.C., serving as a telephone operator to help with the war effort. Virginia married William Joseph (Joe) Baird following the end of the war and Joe's return from the U.S. Navy. They lived in several locations in Indiana and settled in Terre Haute to build their dream home in 1969.
She greatly enjoyed poetry, music, dancing, traveling, watching the Game Show network, and playing along during the Jeopardy show. She was active in the Daughters of the Nile; the Zorah Shrine, where Joe served as a Potentate; and the Maple Avenue United Methodist Church.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Surviving are her daughter Cheri Baird Grubb and her husband Joseph Grubb, Palmyra, VA; grandson Joseph N. Grubb and his wife Courtney, Fredericksburg, VA; and grandson Jason Grubb and his wife Sally and great grandsons Ryan and Lucas, living in Rome, Italy.
A memorial service for Virginia will be held at a later date.
