Tracy Lee (Shoemaker) Saunders, 96, of Terre Haute, passed away Mon., July 2, 2018. She was born April 13, 1922 at Violet Hill, Arkansas, to Iva and George Dewitt Shoemaker.
Mrs. Saunders taught school for 25 years at West Vigo Elementary. She received both a B.S. and master's degree from Indiana State University. She attended Central Bible College in Springfield, MO and was a graduate of Kansas City (KS) Junior College.
She was married to Reverend William D. Saunders for 62 years. Together they founded Calvary Temple in Terre Haute, ministering there for 25 years. She was organist and choir director for 35 years at both Calvary Temple and First Assembly churches.
Her favorite thing to do was assist Rev. Saunders in the ministry and make hospital calls. The couple loved to travel and visited 47 countries, making two missionary trips to China. They spent winters in Dunedin, Florida after retirement, attending Dunedin Assembly of God.
She is survived by cousins, Ken Waggoner, Don Dillard, Faye Huddleston and Anna Gay Herndon; and a host of friends, including Chris West; Hilda Morgan; Nancy House and Mary Mayhew.
Services for Mrs. Saunders will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, July 6, 2018 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, Terre Haute, IN. Burial will follow later at Chapel Hill Gardens, Kansas City, KS. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Friday from 1:00-2:00 PM. Funeral information may also be found at www.callahanandhughes.com .
