Thomas P. Coakley, 89, of Terre Haute died Monday, November 17, 2014 in Meadows Manor East Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 26, 1925 in Linton, IN to Thomas V. Coakley and Sarah J. McQuade Coakley. Thomas was retired from International Paper Company. Survivors include his sister, Anna Mary Torrence; nephews, James Torrence and his wife Nancy, and John Michael Torrence; nieces, Noreen Torrence, Eileen Torrence Mann and her husband James, and Liz Torrence; and several great and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Duffy Coakley whom he married on May 8, 1965; his parents; brothers, William Coakley and Edward Coakley; brother-in-law, Robert W. Torrence; niece, Maureen Torrence; and nephews, Robert Torrence, William Torrence, and Warren Torrence. Thomas was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. Post #972, and American Legion Post #104. He served in World War II in the 390th Army Bombardment Group flying twenty-two missions over Germany. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014 in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Matthew Malek officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Brazil, IN with Military Services by V.F.W. Post #972. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
