Susan C. Oberholtzer

March 1, 1948 — September 3, 2024

Susan Carol Oberholtzer, formerly Goudy, passed away in her home in Terre Haute, Indiana on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. She was born on March 1, 1948 in Youngstown, OH. The daughter of the late Wilfred “Bud” E. Goudy and the late S. Jane (Lamb) Goudy.

Susan (also known as Suzie by her friends and Susu by her family) grew up in the Wheeling, WV area. She attended Triadelphia High School in Wheeling, WV and graduated from Central High School in Pueblo, CO. She also attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

Susan worked for Modern Album, Columbia House Records and Meis in Terre Haute, before moving to Tampa, FL with her husband Paul in 1988. While living in Florida she worked for Dillard’s and Rooms To Go Kids before happily retiring in 2014. Suzie’s favorite hobbies during her retirement were reading books to her hearts’ content and riding on the back of her husband’s Harley Davidson as the cutest motorcycle momma you ever saw. In 2019 she returned to Terre Haute and became an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and officially became a Catholic in a ceremony officiated by the Indianapolis Archbishop in May of 2020.

Susan was an avid animal lover (Cricket, Simon, Gertie, Ginger, Scrappy the rescued squirrel, Mary Moon, Bebe, Jack the Rabbit, Betsy, Molly, Scrappy, Goatee, Hazel, Rosebud, Jack, and Catniss Everdeen all say so!) and a devoted animal rights activist, freely giving of her money, time and voice to the voiceless. She was also known for taking her sweet time and NEVER understanding a joke.

She was preceded in death by her two sisters; “Big Sis” Evelyn J. (Garrison) Thomas of Alexandria, VA, and Judith “Judy” Ann (Smudde) Goudy of Wheeling, WV; and her two brothers, Walter Charles “Chuck” Garrison III of Terre Haute, IN and John Herbert Garrison of Coquille, OR.

She is survived by her husband Paul “Obie” Oberholtzer; her two children, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Oberholtzer of Deadwood, SD and Jason Oberholtzer of New Port Richey, FL; two grandchildren Kelly Teasdale and Austin Oberholtzer; two great grandchildren Nehemiah and Joy Teasdale.; and her best friend of 58 years, Wilma Martinez Gilley of Avondale, AZ.
