Stephen R. "Dick" Harden

Stephen R. “Dick” Harden, 89, of Terre Haute passed away Friday morning, September 27, 2024 surrounded by his family.  He was the owner of Harden Painting Company of Terre Haute.  He was born on May 27, 1935 in Terre Haute, 1 of 12 children of Stephen Harden and Vera Butler Harden.

Survivors include his children, Patrick Harden of Lewis, IN, Cyndi Erwin (Dave) of Brazil, IN and Cathy Green (Denny) of Terre Haute;  and five grandchildren, Aaron Brush (and girlfriend, Qwinn), Ashley Schoen (Damon), Andrew Brush (and girlfriend, Amy), Brandon Brush (Jane) and Kayla Lawson (Drew).  Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Connor, Jude, Nick, Max, Emerson, Llewyn and Henry;  his brothers, Charles and Harold;  his sisters, Mildred, Brenda and Nancy;  sister-in-law, Mary Ann Alexander;  many nieces and nephews;  and his beloved pet, Roxie.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Joan V. Engert Harden;  son, Michael Scott Harden;  four brothers;  and two sisters.

Dick was a graduate of Wiley High School and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.  He was very active in Scouting having achieved the Eagle Scout Award, was honored with the Silver Beaver Award later in life and enjoyed being a member of the “Middle of the Month Club”.  Dick served on the board of directors of the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club, was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Terre Haute and Chairman of the Pension Plan for Painters Union Local #197.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 3, 2024 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Deacon Steve Gretencord officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Thursday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.  If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org),  or to the Terre Haute Humane Society (https://www.thhs.org).  Funeral information and tributes may be found at www.callahanandhughes.com.
