Sister Martha Karin Hall

Sister Martha Karin Hall, 80, a member of the Carmelite Monastery, Terre Haute, IN, died November 7, 2022. Sister was born on June 19, 1942, in Bardstown, Kentucky, to Isaac Bernard and Mary Elizabeth (Lilly) Hall, the oldest of eight siblings. She attended grade school in Maple Mount, KY and high school at St. Catherine’s Academy in Springfield, KY.

Sister recognized a call to the contemplative life of Carmel and entered the Carmelite Monastery in Terre Haute, October 1960. She received the habit of the Order on October 7, 1961, taking the religious name Sister Martha of Jesus, and made her first profession of vows on October 15, 1962, and her lifelong vows on the same date in 1965.

Sister Martha spent her entire religious life of 62 years in the Terre Haute Carmel. She served quietly in many practical capacities: landscaping, printing, cooking, gardening, carpentry and maintenance of all kinds. She was always eager and willing to be of help to anyone in the monastery, with a smile. She had a beautiful soprano voice and loved to participate in liturgical singing and in entertaining the nuns for special occasions.

Sister Martha was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Kathy Warfield. She is survived by her siblings, Larry and (Carol) Hall, Elaine and (Bernard) Boone, Greg and (Patricia) Hall, Eric Hall, Mary Jo and (Thomas) Kruer, Jim and (Betty) Hall and many younger members of a close and loving family.

Visitation will be held at the Carmelite Monastery chapel Friday, November 11 ^th , at 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 PM. Interment will take place after the Mass in the Carmelite Monastery Cemetery.  Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 ^th Street, is in charge of arrangements.
