Shirley Joan Stevens

Survivors include her daughter, Jacqueline K. Payton (William Payton III); brother, John Joseph (Jack) Hensley; lifelong friend, Kaye Whitlock; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David L. Hensley.
Shirley was a member of St. Joseph University Parish; the Red Hat Society; American Legion Post 140 in Clinton; and IBEW Local 723 where she was secretary for many years. She was a 1952 graduate of St. Patrick High School and worked for Verizon (GTE) for 47 years going from operator to facility engineer. Shirley liked to bake cakes, flower garden, and vacation with family and friends. She was a good mom and loved cats. Shirley loved to watch the old movie channel and her favorite movie was Gone With The Wind. She also loved to dance and sit in the sun by her swimming pool.
Memorial services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with Deacon Steve Gretencord officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. Private burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
