Shirley A. Drake, 89, of Terre Haute passed away Friday evening, May 24, 2024. She retired as Manager of Gift Accounting at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Shirley was born September 23, 1934 in Brazil, IN to Oral Hill and Naomi Smith Hill. Her husband, Donald Wayne Drake, and grandson Benjamin Reid Drake preceded her in death. Rosemary Mason was a "big sister" to her and an amazing influence on her life. Brother John Hill, wife Sonnie, nephew Kevin, nieces Karen and Kathy and their families survive her.
Three surviving sons are Ronald Drake, fiancee Jacqueline Boyd of Clayton, IN, Richard Drake and Bettie of Terre Haute and Robert Drake and wife Brenda of Houston, Alabama. Shirley's grandchildren are Caleb Drake (Danielle), Alec Drake (Bri ), Jessica Drake (Zach), Brookelyn Young (Mike), Brittney Cooley (Justin) and Zach Drake (Hailey) Her great-grandchildren are Elijah, Sophia, Sadia, Layla, Grace, Dash and new born Jayden. Christine Drake is a much loved member of the family as well.
Shirley was a graduate of Garfield High School, member of Trinity UMC, and Triad. She served in various roles her entire life including Cub Scouts, PTA and officer for the neighborhood HOA. She enjoyed cooking big holiday meals, painting, reading, music and watching the Hallmark Channel. She fed many of the neighborhood kids and was a friend to so many. She loved animals, especially dogs and wild birds.
Our Mom loves God and treasured her family, friends, colleagues and life itself. The Crawford and Murray families hold a special place in her heart. She lived independently all of her days and was a truly happy soul. Her spirit will remain strong with everyone who knew her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 31, 2024 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with David Haynes officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 30th from 5:00-8:00 PM in the funeral home.
