Sharon Vance Bindley Jones, 82, formerly of Paris, IL and Terre Haute died February 12, 2018. She was born Nov. 7, 1935 on the family farm, in Edgar County Illinois, the daughter of the late Paul F. and June Runkle Vance. She was a graduate of Paris High School and Indiana State University where she received both her bachelor's and master's degrees in education and was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

Sharon taught first at the old Montrose Elementary School and later, first and second grades at Fayette Elementary School for the Vigo County School Corporation. She retired in 1995 after 36 years of teaching.

Sharon was formerly married to the late John B. "Jack" Bindley, taking time out from her teaching career to raise their four children, David, Paul, Maryanne and Brad. Their son David Bruce Bindley died in 1991.

Following retirement from teaching she married Thomas P. Jones in 1995 in Indianapolis and gained another two daughters, Tamera J. Dormans and Kathryn J. Jones.

She was a member of the Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to honor the memory of her ancestor, James Knight, who was both a soldier and a Marine in the American Revolution. She was a member of the League of Terre Haute, active with the March of Dimes and began the Helping Hands program for the community.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas P. Jones, Major General, USA, Ret., sons, Paul (Stephanie) Bindley of Melbourne Beach, Florida and Brad Bindley of Fishers, Indiana; and daughter Maryanne (Vincent) McMahon of Avon, Indiana. She has seven grandchildren: Kateland (Kane) and Keegan McMahon, Bryan, Vance, Everett and Tanner Bindley and Rielly (Jackson) Sutherland; and one great-granddaughter, Kora Wallsmith. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jo Vance Searls.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 15th from 5:00-8:00 PM and funeral service on Friday, February 16th at 2:30 PM at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South, 25th St., Terre Haute, IN with Pastor Scott Sutherland officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Terre Haute, IN.
