Sara Lou Slover of Terre Haute, Indiana peacefully passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She was born on March 7, 1929 in Rosedale, Indiana to Raymond and Lena Hookey. Sara Lou inherited her parents' fun-loving and positive personality and she never met a stranger.
She graduated from Wiley High School and married the love of her life, Robert Austin Slover, on August 6, 1948. They were a devoted couple for 40 years until the death of Robert on November 19, 1988. Sara Lou and Bob loved to dance and socialize with their friends. They were a past president couple of Sycamore Country Club and were active members for several years.
Sara Lou was a loving and proud mother to the couple's three children, Allen, Sally and Jill. Even up to her last dying words, she still had to know if her children were safe and well. She was also very proud of her ten grand and great grand-children and loved to get to see them.
In order to be a stay at home mother and also provide for the family, Sara Lou went to beauty school and she opened her own beauty shop at her home. It was called Tri-Mi Beauty Shop and she provided hair styling services for over 40 years. Beauty and appearance was very important to her. She always wanted her jewelry on, her hair fixed and her make-up perfect.
In Sara Lou's later years, she became a resident of Peddle Park Retirement Community and remained active playing BINGO, card games and socializing with her wonderful Peddle Park friends.
Survivors of Sara Lou include her son Allen Ray Slover and wife Alice, daughter Sally Ann Buchanan and husband Bruce and daughter Jill Lynn Webb and husband Josh. Grandchildren are Wendy Wallace and husband Shawn, Pamela Goings and husband Tom, Jen Acord and husband Eric and Jia Webb. Great grandchildren include Kelsie Wallace, Brittney Frakes, Austin Frakes, Arysson Acord, Alyssa DePasquale and Gavin Acord.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6:30 P.M., Tuesday, September 26, 2017 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with her son, Allen Ray Slover officiating. Private burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Tuesday from 2:30-6:30 P.M. in the funeral home.
