Samuel W. Ferguson
On January 4, 2021 one of the most gentle, loving, and caring men left this earth! He was a husband, a stepfather, a grandpa, and great grandpa. He was technically a stepfather but in life he was the best dad any child could ever have. Any who knew him called him friend and in his 89 years on this earth he only saw the good in everyone. When people pass on, we tend to memorialize them. It is human nature to only remember the good in people. Let me tell you, Sam was that special person who we all want to be like. If all of us had 10% of Sam’s personality and good heartedness we would all be better for it! Alzheimer’s dulled him and Covid-19 eventually took him but in his last minutes of life he was worried about the love of his life, Ruth. That’s just who he was!
Sam was an exceptional athlete in high school, a veteran of the Korean War, had a lifelong career as a commercial electrician for Duke Energy, was a member of the VFW and the IBEW Union. Sam was stationed in Japan and Korea with the U. S. Army.
Sam was preceded in death by his mother, Jesse Cook-Ferguson. Sam is survived by his wife Ruth Ferguson, stepchildren Tommy Porter (Nancy), Becky Grimes, David Porter, and cousins Billy Joe Cook, Larry Beeler, Jo Emily Keyer, 9 grandkids, 16 great grandkids, and multiple friends, former coworkers, and neighbors. The great folks at Harrison Crossing Health loved Sam and gave him care with love and dignity. He knew everyone from the housekeeping department, nurses, techs, foodservice, managers, administration, and all others who worked there. These good folks even looked after our mother, Sam’s wife, when she went to visit him almost daily.
In Sam’s life it was all about love of each other, love of family, love of humanity, and only seeing the good in everyone and every situation. God, one of your best is home with you!
