Ruth E. Ferguson

Today we lost a bright light in many of our lives! Ruth Ferguson, mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt, cousin, in-law, caregiver, friend, the list goes on and on. Anyone that met her or got to know her became aware that she knew no stranger and she opened her arms and heart to all! Her family was her whole world! She and her husband Sam, who passed before her, enjoyed a house full of family, going to the kids’ ball games, going to the casinos, and doing absolutely anything that involved getting together for laughs and giggles.

Ruth was the last of her siblings to pass. She was preceded in death by brothers Butch Blackburn, Harold Blackburn, and sisters Trudy Nawrocki, Doris Hill, and Madeline Cummins. Her parents passed when she was a little girl, so Ruth and her siblings had a pretty tough life growing up.

The love of Ruth’s life, Sam Ferguson, passed away in 2021. Her children are Becky Grimes, David Porter (Companion Kendra Ramos), and Tom Porter (Wife Nancy Porter). Ruth has many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchild. The children of her siblings all loved her like she was their own mom. That is how Ruth’s family is. The love among all family members, regardless of how they are related, is the strength of that special family bond.

Ruth’s bright light dimmed a little in her last years due to the heartbreak of dementia. The good Lord sent the most amazing caregivers to her to soften the pain, to ease the loneliness, to love her and sooth her. She often spoke of them as her children and told them she loved them. You see, in the crazy old world we live in there are good people in it. There are people who have empathy and kindness who are the loving hands that our seniors and afflicted need. Our family will be forever grateful for these kind souls who not only cared for our mother but for our whole family!

Funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St, Terre Haute, IN 47803. Visitation will be prior to services from 10:00 AM-12:00 Noon. Burial will follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery at 4420 Wabash Ave, Terre Haute, IN 47803.
