Ruth Ann (Branam) Dougherty

January 18, 1939 — October 10, 2023

Ruth Ann (Branam) Dougherty, 84, of Terre Haute passed away on Tuesday afternoon, October 10, 2023. Ruth was born January 18, 1939 in Fontanet, Indiana to Everett Branam, Sr. and Grace Eleanor (Inglert) Branam. Her husband, Patrick Aloysius Dougherty, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Sean Patrick Dougherty (Tammy) of Indianapolis, Michael Patrick Dougherty and Bridget Ann (Dougherty) Kelsheimer of Terre Haute; six grandchildren Aidan, Briana, Michael, Brandon, Addison and Preston; and three great-grandchildren, Rowan, Piper and Quinn. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Juanita Branam and Beverly Branam; her brother-in-law, Tom Dougherty (Muriel); her lifelong friend, Carol Dennis; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Everett Branam, Sr., Teddy Branam, Mary Phyllis Koos, Tommy Branam and Shirley Lynn Branam.

Ruth was a graduate of Fontanet High School, and celebrated with her class from Otter Creek as well. She retired from being a deputy clerk in the Vigo County Recorder’s Office, and previously held the same position in the Harrison Township Assessor’s Office, and worked in the Terre Haute City Parks. Ruth was active in local politics, and prided herself on being a loyal member of the Vigo County Democrat Club. Ruth was an animal lover and took in many strays during her life.

Ruth’s truest love in life was her family. Ruth was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, Grandma and Grandma Ruffie.

A visitation is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. A graveside service and burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery with Father Todd Reibe officiating.
