Roy Wilson Atkinson, Jr., 67, of Terre Haute was called home to heaven Sunday, September 29, 2024. He was born August 15, 1957 in Terre Haute to Roy Wilson Atkinson, Sr. and Joan Hedge Atkinson.
Survivors include his children, Roy Wilson Atkinson III (Cori) and Vicki Scott; sisters, Ruth Fagg and Debbie Hoke; granddaughters, whom he adored, Tayler Atkinson, Elliott Scott, and Bristyl Scott along with their father, Ryan Scott; nephews, Everett Fagg, Jr., Michael Walters, Josh Hoke, and Zach Hoke; niece, Angie Morris; several great nieces and nephews; several cousins; and best friend, Dennis Jordan, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carolyn Atkinson.
Roy was a welder with a strong work ethic who after retirement from Local 841 fulfilled his lifelong dream of rebuilding his father’s shop. He was an architectural genius and artist with steel. Roy enjoyed collecting antique tractors, working on his 57 chevy, riding his Harley, and watching Gunsmoke and Andy Griffith with his black coffee. He was a member of the Life Center and Mid Central Operating Engineers Local 841. Those who knew him were blessed by his kindness, generosity, and good ol boy lifestyle.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 5, 2024 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor Tim Minks officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Saturday. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
