Rosemary T. Shavloske of Pompano Beach, Florida, formerly of Terre Haute, passed away on December 31, 2016. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 25, 1929, the only child of Leon Lawrence Shavloske and Addie Elizabeth (Crawley) Shavloske.
Rosemary moved with her parents to Terre Haute in the early 1930s. She graduated from Central Catholic High School and earned bachelor and master's degrees from Indiana State University. Rosemary began teaching elementary music in 1952 for Harrison Township Schools and moved to the Vigo County Schools with consolidation. She taught at many elementary schools including, Meadows, Franklin, and Rio Grande.
Rosemary was an accomplished pianist and organist, accompanied children in state music competitions, and provided music for several local religious organizations including St. Ann's, Temple Israel, St. Patrick's, and St. Joseph's. She also accompanied musical theater productions at ISU, Community Theater of Terre Haute, and the Vigo County Schools.
Rosemary was married to Paul Funkhouser from 1968 to 1971. She is survived by one son, Patrick Shavloske, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and his partner Mark Gerberding .
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Saturday January 7, 2017, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 113 South 5th St., with Friar Mark Weaver, OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled to take place prior to services on Saturday from 9:00-11:00 AM in the church.
