Rosalie Asbury Metheny, 88, died peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2015, at Westminster Village Health and Rehab in Terre Haute, Indiana. Rosalie was born April 23, 1927 in Bellmore, Indiana, the youngest of three children born to Carl and Helen Woolverton Asbury. She married Orval Adrian Metheny on April 9, 1948 at the Methodist Temple in Terre Haute. She joined the Methodist Church in Decatur, Illinois and was later a member of Montrose Methodist Church, and finally, Memorial United Methodist Church. She loved her church family and served in many different ways through the years. Rosalie was also generous with her time in the community, volunteering with the Lighthouse Mission Auxiliary for many years, the Crisis Pregnancy Center, the chaplain's office at Union Hospital, and Ryves Hall, among others. But her greatest love was her family. Although she held part-time jobs outside the home, she was a full-time homemaker to her husband and two sons. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, music, and tending her flowers. Her grandchildren and great- grandchildren were the greatest joys in her life. Rosalie is survived by her two sons, Terry (Nancy) of Greenwood, IN, and Steve (Paula) of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren: Ryan (Jeri) of Thousand Oaks, CA and their children, Gwen, Zach, Annie, and Tori; Emily (David) Howard of Morgan Hill, CA and their children Noah and Kate; Elizabeth (Adam) Johnson of Maple Valley, WA and their children Holly and Ben; Laura (David) Hayes of Westfield, IN and their children Eli and Clara; Rebecca Metheny of Greenwood, IN; Megan (Matt) Miller of Terre Haute and their children Aiden and Owen; Mark (Gina) Metheny and Nora of Terre Haute, and Mallory (Thomas) Manning of Lafayette, IN. Rosalie is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Adrian; brother, Alan Asbury; sister, Carol Jines; and a great-grandson, Luke Howard. The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to Rosalie's caretakers at Westminster Village through the years. There are too many people to name, but the nurses and staff were always so kind and compassionate, and we are very appreciative. Services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, with Pastor D. Scott Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service time. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Farmersburg, IN. Memorial Contributions may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street.
