Ronnie K. Payne, 89, of Terre Haute passed away Monday evening, July 18, 2022. He was born November 1, 1932 in Terre Haute to Charles I. Payne and Vellie Leslie Payne. His wife, Rose Ann Sparks Payne, preceded him in death in 2004.
Survivors include his four children, Chuck Payne, Rhonda Casey (Jerry) and Mark Payne all of Terre Haute and Curt Payne of Michigan; five grandchildren, Michael Payne (Amanda), Dustin Higgins (Jennifer), Shelby Koch (Joe), Curtis Payne (Sarah) and Sarah Avery (Tyler); and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Glenda Bonte; two brothers-in-law, Jim Joseph and Gary Sparks; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Tonya Lee Payne.
Ronnie was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School where he played basketball for Howard Sharpe. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of American Legion Post #104. Ronnie worked as a carpenter during his life owning his own business, Ron Payne Home Improvements. Ronnie was an avid fisherman, was a member of several fishing clubs throughout the area and was known for his legendary fish fries. He was an avid hunter throughout his life making yearly trips to Wyoming. He loved the outdoors, nature and his beloved Dachshund, Daisey. Ron was also a skilled woodworker and could build anything. He loved to play euchre with family and friends and enjoyed bowling at Vigo Bowl.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 PM, Saturday, July 23, 2022 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 th Street, with Pastor Steve Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with Military Honors presented by American Legion Post #104. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 11:00 AM-1:30 PM in the funeral home.
