Robert Lee St Clair

December 11, 1956 — July 20, 2023

Robert Lee St Clair – Bob to his friends and family –, 66, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 20th, 2023, at home. He was born on December 11th, 1956 in San Jose, California, to his mother Marna Bell Enos and father Dale Lee St. Clair. He grew up in Southern California and enlisted in the Navy at the age of eighteen. In 1982, he moved to Terre Haute, Indiana.

Early in his professional life, Bob worked for the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier. Later, he primarily worked in food services as a cook and managing kitchens; most recently, he retired in 2016 as a cook in the dining hall at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.

Robert, Bob, Bobby, as some knew him, was a loving husband, a doting grandfather, a neighbor, and a friend to anyone and everyone who crossed his path. His hobbies included disc golf, gardening, walking his dogs, cheering on his grandchildren at their softball and basketball games, in addition to watching any and all professional sports, especially his beloved Colts. Through the years, he was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he gave his time and support to a myriad of organizations and projects. Always a child at heart with an indelibly generous nature, he was never one to sit still for long, whether tackling home repairs and gardening, lending a helping hand to a friend or neighbor, or setting out to hunt for the perfect pastrami sandwich in every city, town, or state he visited. He endeavored to inspire fun in the lives of children in countless ways, from dressing up in costume as the Easter Bunny for a Deming Park Easter Celebration or as Santa Claus for Sycamore Socials, to promoting and organize an end-of-school-year water balloon fight for the kids of Edgewood Grove, where he lived. In our memories of Bob, we will recall fondly his youthful nature, spirited disposition, and his generosity.

He is survived by a loving family, including his wife Judy Bozarth St. Clair, her two children, Jana Hayden and Bert Hill, siblings Roseanne St. Clair Hicks, Mike St. Clair, Susan Sellars, Amber St. Clair and her children Israel and Ariah, many nieces and nephews, his grandchildren Maren, Liam, Abby, Ellie, and Frankie, and two dogs Maggie and Fudge.

He is preceded in death by his mother, his father, sister Gale, and brother Justin Kyle St. Clair. The family plans to gather later this year in Oregon for a celebration of both Bob and his mother’s lives, where his loved ones will spread both of their ashes together. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the 14th and Chestnut Community Center.
