Robert "Gibby" Gibbons passed away on April 5 at Westminster Village Health Care, he was 90 years old. Gibby was born on June 14, 1928 to John Burton Gibbons and Lucille Gibbons.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura Nikiel and husband Peter Nikiel, grandson, Patrick Nikiel, sister-in-law, JoAnn Gibbons Martin, brother-in-law, Dr. Jerrold Baker, niece, Ellen Burdick, niece, Leslie Burdick, nephew, Matt Baker, nephew, Kevin Gibbons, niece, Karen Titzer and niece, Kay Ponsot. Gibby was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Paul Gibbons, nephew, Kraig Gibbons, wife, Juanita Louise Gibbons, sister-in-law Jeraldine Baker and 2nd wife Patricia A. Kelley Gibbons.
Gibby graduated from Garfield High School, Indiana University and the NASDAQ NYSE Training. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Gibby began his career working in the family business, BestWay Trucking Company. He spent 5 years as a stock broker at Hilliard Lyons and the bulk of his career as a Trust Officer at Terre Haute First. Gibby loved the outdoors, Cuban cigars, fishing, and hunting and was a member of Ducks Unlimited, but the passion of his life was watercolor painting. Gibby donated a collection of paintings to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
A "Celebration of Life"- gathering is scheduled for May 18, 5pm - 7pm at the Sycamore Country Club. To honor Gibby, visit his art exhibit at Rose-Hulman or make a donation to the Terre Haute Humane Society, 1811 South Fruitridge Ave, Terre Haute, IN.
