Robert Joseph DeHart, 68, of Plainfield, Indiana and formerly of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away Thursday morning, May 29, 2014. He retired from CSX Transportation after 40 years where he worked as a Brakeman and Conductor. Bob was born July 19, 1945 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Elmer DeHart and Rosemary Harkness DeHart. Robert graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in 1963. After graduation he joined the United States Army serving as a paratrooper in Company D of the 17th Infantry. After returning home, he joined the Air Force Reserve as a Parachute Rigger at Hulman Field. He married Judith Hyde in 1966. They lived in Terre Haute until 2009 when they moved to Plainfield to be closer to their grandchildren, whom they cherished. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Judy DeHart; two daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie & Mark Watson of Avon, IN and Monica & Philip Dabio of Danville, IN; a brother, William DeHart Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Molly & Drew Watson, and Brittany, PJ and Madelyn Dabio; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Price and her companion, Leroy Moore, of Seelyville, IN, and Barbara DeHart of Terre Haute; a brother-in-law, Larry Hyde and his wife, Lee, of Terre Haute; a niece; and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosemary and Elmer DeHart; his brother, Jim DeHart; a niece, Angela Oldham; and a nephew, Bradley DeHart. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Monday, June 2, 2014 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, Terre Haute, with Reverend Larry Kurtz officiating. Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #104. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 3:00-7:00 P.M. at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home.
