Robert D. Archer, 76, of Terre Haute passed peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, January 10 at IUH University Hospital in Indianapolis. He lived a full life to an old age, surrounded by family and friends; an ending anyone would be blessed to have. Robert was born in Zanesville, OH to Bernard R. Archer and Pauline Soughers Archer.
Survived by his wife, Patricia Kress Archer; sons, Bradley (Chasity) and Christopher (Kristen); brother, Bryan (Laura); sisters, Donna (Tom) Torrens and Jan (Ken) Riney; sister in-law, Marylyn Reed; grandchildren, Orin, Quin, Katlyn (Austin) Morgan, and Makensey.
Robert proudly served in the Army Reserves for 21 years. He retired as a maintenance electrician at Indiana State University. An active community member, former president of the Wabash Valley Master Gardeners, contributed his time to judging 4H events, and enjoyed hobbies including fishing, hunting, and boating.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM EST followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM EST (noon) on Saturday, January 27th, at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, 1203 Maple Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47804, with Pastor Laura McDonald officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home.
Flowers are welcome and will be accepted for the service. Alternatively, a donation supporting the Wabash Valley Master Gardener’s Giving Garden, which provides fresh vegetables to local charity and soup kitchens at no cost. Donations should be made via check sent to WVMGA, P.O. Box 11532, 150 W. Margaret Dr., Terre Haute, IN 47802 or deposited in the donation box at the service, payable to: Wabash Valley Master Gardeners Association, Inc.
