Robert Dale Behymer

Robert Dale Behymer, 88, of Vista, California, and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday,July 23, 2014 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in La Jolla, California. He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, June 12, 1926, the son of Herbert Eugene Behymer and Helen Gertrude Gottschalk. He graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute in 1944 and joined the US Navy serving as a signalman on the USS Landsdowne in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he majored in history at Indiana State University, where he met his wife, Mary Evelyn Griffin of Rosedale, Indiana. After graduation, they married on September,30th, 1949 and remained married for the next fifty-three years. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2003. Mr. Behymer pursued a variety of retail positions ranging from clerk to vice president of international operations with organizations such as Ben Franklin, Sears, Montgomery Wards, TSC Industries, and Just Pants. Preceded in death by his brothers Donald and William, he is survived by his son, Bruce Behymer, of San Marcos, California and Bruce's six children: Jonathan, Benjamin, Nathan, Rachel, Matthew, and Hannah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 13th, in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints Chapel, 1845 North 6th ½ Street, Terre Haute, Indiana with Bishop Jared Goulding officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Clinton, IN. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street.
