Richard G. Whitworth

Richard G. Whitworth, 92, of Terre Haute died Thursday morning, December 22, 2022. He was born January 2, 1930 in Terre Haute to Bryce Whitworth and Mildred Holman Whitworth.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, John and Margaret Whitworth of Springfield, IL; a niece, Diane Turpen (Darren); a nephew, John David Whitworth (Kathy); four great-nieces, Elise Whitworth, Megan Whitworth, Callie Turpen and Audrey Turpen; and a family friend, Laverne Schaffer. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Whitworth.

Richard was a graduate of Wiley High School, received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana State University and his Doctorate degree from Indiana University. During his career he was an educator having taught 10 years in the public schools of Crawfordsville and Indianapolis, and was a Professor of English for 28 years in the English Department at Ball State University, Muncie. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War having served from 1951-1955.
