Richard Card, Jr., 68, of Terre Haute passed away Tuesday evening, April 3, 2018 in St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana in Indianapolis. He had worked for many years as a timber buyer for Western Tar Products and retired as a Director with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. Rick was born November 10, 1949 in Terre Haute to Richard Card, Sr. and Margaret Finnerty Card.
Survivors include his daughter, Rachel Card Jackson (Shane); his son, Richard Card III; granddaughters, Harper and Chaney Jackson; and two brothers, Joseph B. Card (Carol Wetherell) and John F. Card (Cathy). Also surviving are his nieces, Kathryn Card Ater, Jennifer Card Kirsch (James), Melissa Card Thompson (Jeffrey), Molly Card Beckmann (Nick) and Betsy Card Young (Eric); a nephew-in-law, Joel Harbaugh and special family members, Sarah Wooden Vidal and her children, Hayden Vidal and Patrick Vidal. He was preceded in death by his parents; his companion of 28 years, Elizabeth "Beth" Smith; and a niece, Mary Card Harbaugh.
Rick was a graduate of Schulte High School and Indiana State University. He embraced his role as an active member of St. Joseph University Parish, especially his visits with Friar Mark Weaver, who will be pleased to know that Rick departed after receiving the last rites. Rick enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as fishing and hunting, especially when joined by his son, Richard. He was very appreciative for the many years that Dr. Richard Mayrose has provided medical guidance as well as for the lifestyle tips generously given by William Olah and Robert Wright. Rick enjoyed the many hours spent with his many good friends including Bill Curley and Dan DeBard.
Rick left this world quietly and comfortably while surrounded by many family members. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 9, 2018 in St. Joseph University Parish, 113 South 5th Street, with Friar Mark Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, April 8th from 4:00-7:00 PM in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
