Richard W. Bird Richard W. Bird, 83, of Terre Haute, IN passed away Tuesday May 5, 2015 in Union Hospital. He was born on April 1, 1932 in Riley to Westley Bird and Nancy Edith Lemmons Bird. He was a laborer at the former Alcan and Stran-Steel. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy S. Selby Bird. Other survives include his Son, David Bird and his wife Lisa of Savannah, Georgia; two granddaughters, Kelly Flynn and her husband Peter of Indianapolis and Haley Bird of Savannah, Georgia; a brother, James Bird of Riley; a sister-in-law, Judy Rathburn and her husband John of Glenwood, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Bird; a brother, Joseph Bird; and two sisters, Maxine Gardner and Elsie Boswell. Richard was a member of Union Christian Church, Wayne Newton Post 346, Disabled American Veterans, Vigo County. He also was a master gardener and loved wood working. Richard also participated in the Make a Wish Foundation. He also worked in The Vigo Country School Corporation and was a licensed Funeral Director. Richard served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday May 8, 2015 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with Mark Grayless officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday May 7, 2015 in the funeral home. The family kindly request that memorial contributions may be made to: The Vigo County 4-H Rabbit Club, 3649 E. County Road 700 S. Cloverdale, IN 46120.
