Reverend James E. Palmer, 90, of Terre Haute departed this life Sunday evening, December 13, 2020 to be joyously reunited with his Savior, Jesus the Christ. He was a retired minister having served with Assemblies of God for over 63 years. Jim was born November 18, 1930 in Seelyville, IN to Raymond Palmer and Inez Bender Palmer. His wife, Martha J. Felling Palmer, preceded him in death in 2013.
Survivors include his son, Rev. James R. Palmer (Kathy); his two daughters, Brenda Palmer and Marla J. Gilliam (Dan); nine grandchildren, April, Kevin, Craig, Travis, Kelly, Amy, Erica, Adam and Levi; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Pamala Palmer; three brothers, Walter Palmer, Luther “Babe” Palmer and Marvin Palmer; a sister, Velva Jean Cutsinger; a granddaughter, Amber; two great-grandsons; his mother and father-in-law, Irene and Clarence Felling; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Felling and Ralph Felling.
Jim was a graduate of Glenn High School in Terre Haute and North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN. He served in the United States Army in Germany. In addition to serving as a minister, Jim was also a substitute teacher with the Vigo County School Corporation for many years.
Due to Covid-19, funeral services will be private on Saturday, December 19, 2020 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 th Street, with Rev. Kevin Palmer (Jim’s grandson) officiating. There is no visitation. Private burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
