Rebecca A. "Becky" Evers

August 3, 1940 — December 20, 2021

Rebecca A. “Becky” Evers, 81, of Terre Haute passed away Monday morning, December 20, 2021. She was born August 3, 1940 in Terre Haute to Merrill Thorp Carr and Mary Elizabeth Shawver Carr.

Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Klein (Steve) and Sarah Evers both of Cumming, GA; two grandchildren, Jessica Lynn and Kaitlyn Elizabeth; her sister, Martha Burk of Westwood, MA; two nieces, Erika and Rebecca; and a nephew, Kurt. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Becky attended Wiley High School in Terre Haute. She graduated from Indiana State University with a Master of Arts in Biology. She was a professor in the Science Department at Miami Dade College (Miami, FL) for 38 years. She served as an Assistant Department Chairperson. She retired in 2003 and moved back to IN to be closer to her mother. She contributed to many charitable causes supporting the community through Catholic Charities, Feeding America and Salvation Army. Her passion for the environment and science led her to support the National Audubon Society, the World Wildlife Fund and the Smithsonian. She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter, weaver and knitter. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, watching sports and Jeopardy.

There are no services at this time, however a Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date. Cremation and burial arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
