Raymond Lowell Watts, 77, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024 in Union Hospital. He was born March 7, 1947 in Brazil, IN to Raymond Earl Watts and Helen Mae Johnson Watts.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Kelly Schoemaker Watts; son, Shawn Watts (Angie); daughters, Alyssa Watts (Zach Foster) and Angell Watts Vasko (Dustin); sisters, Lou Ann Utz, Patty Austin, and Marcia Albright; grandchildren, Mariah Watts, Josiah Watts, Makayla Vasko, Ava Foster, and Mila Foster; sister-in-law, Cindy Watts; and brother-in-law, Richard Ballinger. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert “Bob” Watts; and sister, Janice Ballinger.
Ray was the former Chief of Police of Terre Haute. He was a member of the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police, Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion Post #104, Vigo Lodge #29 F & AM, Scottish Rite, and Zorah Shrine. Ray was a recipient of a Purple Heart in the Vietnam War and served as President of the Purple Heart Association.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 27, 2024 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Police Chaplain Todd Haller officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with military graveside services. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024 with Masonic Memorial Services at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society.
