Paul V. Thompson, 92 years old and a resident of Terre Haute, passed away on February 23, 2019. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII. He grew up singing in the choir with his father and mother, John and Marie Thompson at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church. He was an avid Opera fan and sang for many weddings in the prime years of his life. He became a career truck driver transporting Caterpillar heavy equipment throughout Kentucky and southern Indiana for Whayne Supply Co., in Louisville, KY. He was a long-time resident of Jeffersonville, IN where he married Geneva, his wife of 51 years. After retirement, he and his wife spent their winters in Texas where they also had many friends. He enjoyed camping, hunting, watching football games and carving wooden ducks. He and his wife moved back to Terre Haute in their latter years to be near his son and family. He was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church of Terre Haute where his son is the pastor.
He is preceded in death by and his wife Geneva Thompson; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. John L. Thompson; Micky Croft, sister; Bill Thompson, brother, and Jim Thompson, brother. He is the last of his generation.
He is survived by John L. Thompson, son; Carol Thompson, daughter-in-law; three grandchildren, Heather Cooper, Holly Cunningham, John L. Thompson (J.L); twelve great grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.
The Funeral will be held at Callahan-Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S 25th Street, on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 12 Noon. Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral. His son, Pastor John L. Thompson officiating. Private burial will be at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, IN.
