Patricia R. Lady Mansard

Patricia R. Lady Mansard, 82, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday evening, April 29, 2021. She was Clerk of the Vigo County Circuit Court for 4 terms and Chief Deputy for 2 terms for husband, William L. Mansard. She previously served as a deputy clerk for the City of Terre Haute under City Clerk, Chuck Hanley. Pat was born June 8, 1938 in Fall Branch, TN to Beryl A. Lady and Sylvia Eloise Crawford Lady. Her husband, William L. Mansard, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her four children, Cynthia “Cindy” Mansard Fields, Alyse Mansard and William “Rocky” Mansard, Jr. (Julie) all of Terre Haute, and Ashley “Randy” Mansard (Lori) of Port St. Lucie, FL; and ten grandchildren, Jeremy Sheeder, Lauren Moriarty, Will Mansard, III, Jessica Loomis, Gretchen Voland, Jonathan Fields, Jeanine Valdez, Grant Mansard, Brooke Elliott and Amanda Mansard. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Mildred Ross of Titusville, FL; a niece, Rebecca Gitter; and a nephew, Chris Lady. In addition to her parents and husband, her brother, Don A. Lady, also preceded her in death.

Pat was a graduate of Wiley High School and attended Indiana State University. Pat was a member and served on the Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters; member and former Officer in the Association of Clerks of Circuit Courts of Indiana where she received awards for Best Election Organizer and the Presidential Award; served as Secretary to the Vigo County Election Board, and Secretary to the Vigo County Commission on Public Records. In October of 2003, the Harry S. Truman Club presented her with the Kentucky Colonel Award from Gov. Paul Patton and the Sagamore of the Wabash Award from Indiana Gov. Joseph Kernan. In 1989, she was profiled by the Tribune Star in their “Women and Power” series. She was a member of St. Joseph University Parish and the Red Hat Society. She was a breast cancer survivor and an active member in the local breast cancer survivors group. While in office as the Circuit Court Clerk, her passion was the preservation and accessibility of public records and the integrity of the election process. She took pride in always being available to the people she served and enjoyed performing hundreds of weddings.

She dedicated most of her life to the betterment of the community through organizing, serving and promoting good government. She was passionate in her efforts to promote women’s voting rights, social justice, an advocate for human rights and the environment. She cherished all of God’s creation. Her greatest passion of all was her family. She was an avid reader, always learning and educating others, inspiring good health, safety and welfare in our community. She supported the Sisters of Providence in their efforts to bring equality and peace both here and abroad. Pat will always be remembered for her signature French Beret and for being impeccably dressed. She was a remarkable political leader in the community with a long career dedicated in public service.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, May 7, 2021 in St. Joseph University Parish, 113 South 5th Street, with Friar Savio Manavalan officiating. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 9:30 AM- 12:00 Noon in the church. Due to Covid 19, masks and social distancing are required for services in St. Joseph University Parish. Private burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
