Patricia Kelley-Gibbons, of Terre Haute died Friday morning, October 26, 2018 at Union Hospital. Pat was born on August 6, 1935 to Oliver and Florence Sissel Waters in Nokomis, IL. She is survived by her husband, Robert D. Gibbons; step-daughter, Laura Nikiel; step-grandson, Patrick Nikiel; sister, Ada Tillery and brother and sister-in-law, John and Marlene Waters. Also surviving is nephew John J. Waters; niece, Connie Waters; nephews, Steven Tillery and Jeff Tillery and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert Kelley, her sister, Margaret; and brothers, James, Oliver, Jr. and Donald Waters.
Pat graduated from Fontanet High School. She is retired from the University of California, Los Alamos National Laboratory. She spent most of her life in Los Alamos, New Mexico where she and her first husband were employed by the Atomic Energy Commission and later the Energy Department. Pat was an executive in the Personnel Administration Division and the Compensation Department of the Laboratory. She was in charge of all Special Programs, and hiring and termination of Laboratory employees. She managed all recruitment, minority outreach and special program development. Pat represented the Laboratory at several New Mexico State sponsored seminars for upcoming professional females and recruited women and minority applicants in New Mexico and surrounding states. She and co-worker, Julia Hardin, developed, founded and administered the Historically Black Universities and Colleges Program at the Laboratory. Pat was a member of the American Compensation Association and the Professional Business Women's Association.
Pat traveled extensively in the western United States. In later years, she was an avid quilter and taught quilting classes. She was a past president of the Vigo County Quilters Guild. Pat loved to garden and she dearly loved her wonderful pets.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 3:00 PM, Saturday, November 3, 2018 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor Kyle Nelson officiating. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Saturday from 2:00-3:00 PM in the funeral home.
