Pamela M. (Sorokes) Weber Pamela Weber, the wife of Martin Weber, lost her battle with diabetes. She was 63. She died on Friday, February 20, 2015 in Terre Haute, Indiana with her husband, brothers and sisters, and friends beside her. Pam was born in 1952 in Erie, Pennsylvania. Her father John W. Strokes and mother Shirley (Bartlett) Strokes preceded her in death. Her love of family and friends ran deep. No matter her circumstance, she would find ways to express her appreciation and love of you with small gifts and surprises. A great pride of Pam's was being the oldest of five children and she would take every opportunity to share this fact even to the embarrassment to her siblings. Though not always quick to get a joke, Pam had her own way of bringing laughter to a room. Pam's discovery of her creative spirit in high school stayed with her throughout her life. Though she enjoyed traveling, both abroad and domestically, she was happiest at home. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Communications from Villa Marie College, and continued her education with Graduate Studies at Penn State Erie Behrend College. Her desire to help change lives led her to her career in non-profit work. She made great impact on lives of people in Erie, Pennsylvania and Terre Haute, Indiana. She relocated to Terre Haute from Erie in 2005, accepting the Executive Director's position at the YWCA. Pam worked with intent to grow the organization's membership while enhancing awareness to women's initiatives. After the merging of the community's YWCA and YMCA, Pam accepted the branch manager's position at Plaza North Branch Library for Vigo County Public Library. Here, Pam was in her element as she loved reading. She connected people with Library services and had much fun creating and implementing various in-house family reading activities. Following the closing of this library branch, Pam accepted a position at Indiana State University. University budget cuts then led Pam to the Vigo County Public Schools as a substitute teacher. Pam's community impact largely occurred in Erie Pennsylvania. She led the Liberty House project, a transitional housing program in Erie County specifically for homeless Veterans. Her greatest pride came from her work as executive director at Hope House which offers families additional time and support as they seek their independence. Pam worked the project from construction to assisting families with Hope House services. As Executive Director at Erie Dawn, she worked closely with Sisters of Mercy, Sisters of St. Joseph and the Benedictine Sisters to provide transitional housing and programming for homeless women and children. Pam is survived by her husband Martin Weber, Terre Haute, Indiana and siblings; Paul Strokes, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Robin Pruchniewski (Tom) Erie, Pennsylvania; Lisa Johnson (Randall) Terre Haute, Indiana; Matthew Strokes (Gloria) Sanford, Florida; Aunts Marie Evanovich (Mike) and Eileen Donnell; and numerous cousins and friends. The family will hold a memorial service in Terre Haute on Friday, February 27th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home at 605 S. 25th Street Terre Haute, Indiana. The family will than transport Pam to Erie Pennsylvania for a funeral Mass on Wednesday, March 4th at 11:00 am at St. Jude Church, 2801 West 6th Street, Erie Pennsylvania. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Elks Club at 2409 Peninsula Drive, Erie, Pennsylvania 16506. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that people wishing to honor Pam's memory contribute to diabetes research, or - best of all - the tribute Pam herself would like best: surprise a loved one with a small gift or act of kindness.
