Opal L. Brooks, 78, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 in her residence. She was born on October 27, 1942 in Parke County, Indiana to Frank and Ardessa Marie (Williams) Jones. Opal attended Brazil High School and Indiana Business College. She worked various jobs over the years. She started her job in 1992 at McCann Manor Nursing Home in Center Point, IN where she was the Assistant Administrator and helped in nursing and dietary, retiring in 2002. Opal enjoyed sewing, making quilts, playing cards and computer games, and was an avid bowler. She attended Bee Ridge Church. She adored her grandchildren and opened her doors to many family and friends throughout the years. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ardessa Marie Jones Murray; her first husband, Joseph Phelps; second husband of 31 years, Murray Brooks; brothers, Frank, Hershel, Chuck, and Floyd Jones; and sisters, Wynona Wesley and Martha Cox. Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Brooks Butler, Angie Bass and husband, Kent, and Wendy Brooks Harbaugh and husband, Patrick; brothers, Wilber Jones, Dwight Glen Jones, and Leroy Bridgewater; grandchildren, Morgan Butler, Bryce Butler, Seth Madsen, Wade Fort, Alaina Fort, and Kaylee Harbaugh; and a great-grandchild, Bently Young. Private funeral services will be held Monday, November 16, 2020 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home with Pastors Jeff and Elmer Leroy Bridgewater officiating. Following services, friends and family are invited to gather at Family Worship Center on US 40 West at the Staunton flashers.
