Olivia Ann James, 89, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday morning, August 3, 2016. She was born November 3, 1926 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute to George Sonka and Melania Lungoci Sonka. George Melania came to Terre Haute from Romania and opened up the original Sonka Bar at 14th and Wabash in 1934. Olivias husband, Harry H. James whom she married May 26, 1946, preceded her in death on May 16, 2009. Harry was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves and a long time employee of the Vigo County School Corporation.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon L. Woelfle (John) of Terre Haute and Lynn Morrisey (Daniel) of Fishers, IN; a son, Greg G. James (Jeannine) of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren, Todd Woelfle (Amanda), Scott Woelfle (Brandi), Dustin James (Sarah), Amber Miller (Michael), Derek James (Kaicy), Brett Beaty (Shuray) and Mark Beaty (Lauren); and nine great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Anne E. Woelfle on April 16, 2014.
Olivia graduated from Garfield High School in 1944. She was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Sycamore Club, Womans Department Club, Badoura Temple #23 Daughters of the Nile and the Elks Lodge. Olivia lived at Westminster Village for nearly 14 years where she participated in many activities and enjoyed all her friends she made while there. She was an extremely loving and caring person who always put her family first. We were blessed for her to have been a part of our lives. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 215 North 7th Street, with The Reverend Drew Downs officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Tuesday from 10:00 AM- 12:00 Noon in the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 215 North 7th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
