Norma Scott Bauer, 87, passed away surrounded by her family on Memorial Day, May 27, 2019. She was born November 16, 1931, to William Ernest "Ernie" Scott and Ruth Kasemeyer Scott in West Terre Haute, Indiana. She graduated from Valley High School and was a 1953 graduate of Indiana State Teachers College, where she was president and charter member of Delta Gamma sorority. Norma was a member of Bethany Congregational Church and was a dedicated volunteer at the Saint Patrick Church Soup Kitchen for many years. Norma was a retired school teacher who adored children and enriched the lives of her students as a substitute teacher across the Wabash Valley, and then as a beloved preschool teacher at Seelyville United Methodist Preschool.
In 1953, she married the love of her life and best friend, Joseph Anton Bauer, who preceded her in death. Norma's greatest passion in life was her family; she lost a little piece of her heart with the death of her oldest daughter, Ruthmarie Bauer Newport. Her legacy of love will live on through the family who survive her; children Joseph Newport, Scott and Debbie Bauer, Chris and Robin Bauer, Teresa Bauer Shaffer and Katy and Lee Myer; grandchildren Leah Newport Stayer (Scott), Joey Newport (Kanesha), Chris Newport (Whitney), Marcee Newport Wilburn (Jason), Corey Bauer, Scotty Bauer, James "Spike" Bauer, Jamie Stuteville (Mike), Billie Jo Butt (Keith), Amos Bauer, Jacob Shaffer (Brittany), Anthony "AJ" Shaffer, Alycia Myer, Nicholas Myer and Kasey Myer; her nine great-grandchildren; and cousins Helen Hunter (Gene), and Marcie Newburn (Fred), who were like sisters to her.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 2, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street in Terre Haute. Services will also be held at Callahan & Hughes on Monday, June 3, at 10 a.m. with Reverend Steve Moore officiating.
The family asks that donations be made in honor of Norma Bauer to the St. Patrick's Church Soup Kitchen or the Ruthmarie Bauer Newport Thanksgiving Day Dinner.
