Nancy L. Farr

June 7, 1949 — July 24, 2022

Nancy Farr, my beloved wife, soulmate, best friend, and the love of my life passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022, in our home.  Her passing comes after a multi-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Nancy was born in Terre Haute, IN on June 7, 1949, the eldest daughter of Charles Robert Emberton and Betty (Hudson) Emberton.  She was an excellent student, graduating as Salutatorian of the Terre Haute Gerstmeyer class of 1967.  Nancy was a born leader and held many leadership positions during her high school years, including yearbook editor during her senior year.  She went on to earn a Bachelor and Master of Science in Mathematics from Indiana State University and became a math teacher for many years before entering the financial services business with her husband, Mike.

In 1970, Nancy married Angelo Meneghini, and they lived in Tucson, Arizona for while Angelo served in the US Air Force.  While in Arizona they had a son, Robert (Michael), in 1972.  In 1974, the family returned to Terre Haute upon Angelo’s discharge from the Air Force.

In 1977, after Nancy and Angelo’s marriage ended, Nancy was reacquainted with Mike Farr, an old high school friend, while planning their 10-year class reunion.  On June 2, 1978, Nancy and Mike were married.  Their marriage lasted for a lifetime until her passing this past Sunday – 44 years.  Together, they raised Michael and the two children Nancy and Mike had together, Chris and Lori.

Nancy took leave from the Vigo County School Corporation when Chris was born in 1980.  She continued the leave when Lori was born in 1982.  She was a stay-at-home mom until Lori entered 1 st grade, at which time Mike convinced her to join him in their financial services business in 1988.  Nancy was truly a “Wonder Woman.” She handled a multitude of duties in the business and still managed to get home each day to meet the school bus, when she changed into her “mom hat.”  She took good care of her children as well as her husband, was a fantastic cook, a leader in several civic organizations, as all while taking care of her business duties.  While doing all of this, she still found time to attend all functions in which her children participated.

For all who had the pleasure of knowing Nancy, she was an amazing person.  She never met a stranger; was the most friendly and outgoing person they had ever met.  Her personality bubbled over.  She was witty, funny, smart and always “the life of the party.”  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  She volunteered her time and energy to many civic and charitable organizations over the years, including the Terre Haute Women’s Club, March of Dimes, Booster Club and Golden Patriot Club of Terre Haute North High School, Deacon, Trustee, and Elder of Central Presbyterian Church of Terre Haute, and the First Presbyterian Church of Brazil.  She was a board member of VNA, Hospice of the Wabash Valley for over 20 years, where she worked tirelessly on all fund-raising projects, including the annual “Hospice Holiday Celebration” each year with her good friend and buddy, Greg Gibson.  She received the Dr. William G. Bannon award from Hospice in 2015 for her outstanding service.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her first husband, Angelo Meneghini.  She is survived by her husband, Mike; children: Dr. R. Michael Meneghini (Sarah) Chris Farr (Elizabeth) and Lori Diemer (Adam) all of Fishers, Indiana; grandchildren: Ethan Meneghini, Cecilia Meneghini, Gianna Meneghini, Luca Meneghini, Mario Meneghini, Milania Meneghini, Samantha Farr, William Farr, Haiden Diemer-McKinney, Myla Diemer and Lily Diemer; two sisters: Jan Miller (Mark) Cindy Harvey (Steve); nieces and nephews: Christy Halls, Amy Atterson, Matt Griese and Melissa Griese.

As Nancy’s husband of 44 years and primary caregiver for the last 4 years, my heart is broken and there is a hole in my soul that I feel will never heal, although my friends and family assure me it eventually will.  I must take solace now that Nancy’s suffering is finally over.  She is now with God, free of the horrible, wretched disease of Alzheimer’s, and reunited with her parents and all other relatives and friends who went before her.

I will love you forever Nanc, Nancy Lee, my Blue-Eyed Girl.  I miss you terribly, but I must remain here for a while for our children and grandchildren.  Please be assured I will be along to join you someday.  Until then, rest well and be happy my love.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers who have served us over the years.  Ruthann, Chelsey, Terresita, and many others.  I can never repay you for your service.  A very special thanks to Sarah, who was our anchor caregiver; such a sweet, kind, loving and caring person, in addition to being highly skilled. Sarah is truly an angel, disguised as a human being.  I shall never forget you Sarah, and words cannot express our eternal gratitude.  Also, a special thanks to Amber, who was only with us a couple of days, but was with me, comforting me and Nancy when she passed from this life. Finally, a very special thanks goes to our Niece, Amy Atterson, of Southern Care Hospice, who quarterbacked Nancy’s care and arranged most of our caregivers. Nancy’s sister, Jan, and brother-in-law, Mark, dedicated many countless hours to help Nancy and me over the years. We are eternally grateful for their love and support.  I would also like to send special thanks to our great friends, Carla and Rex Henry and Paula and Cary Sparks, who were with us all the way through our battle with Alzheimer’s, and our wonderful church family at 1 st Presbyterian Church.
