MICHAEL B. FOWLER Michael B. Fowler, 71, of Terre Haute died Sunday morning, October 13, 2013 in his home. He was a Deputy State Fire Marshall for the State of Indiana for 20 years and was an investigator for the Vigo County Prosecutors Office for 7 ½ years. Mike was born November 20, 1941 in Kokomo, IN to Jack L. Fowler and Rosamond C. Bell Fowler. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara Schmisek Fowler; three children, Dawn E. Kackley and Darrell of Terre Haute, Eric M. Fowler and his wife, Abbey, of Milwaukee, WI and Heather N. Howard and her husband, Jeffrey, of Terre Haute; his sister, Nashalla Fearnow of Clearwater, FL; six grandchildren, Jill Kackley (Ronnie), Jordan Kackley (Danielle), Hilary Howard, Ashlyn Howard, Mitchell Fowler and Hanna Fowler; and one great-grandchild, Coen Jude Howard. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Roger Schmisek and his wife, Bobbi, and John Schmisek and his wife, Rita; three sisters-in-law, Joan Scheett and her husband, Tony, Gayle Bailey and Carol Holweger and her husband, Larry; a former son-in-law, Jeff Kackley; a former daughter-in-law, Kim Fowler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Joshua Kackley. Mike was a graduate of Kokomo High School and had served in United States Air Force in the early 1960's. He was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a member of Saint Mother Theodore Council Knights of Columbus. He loved to hunt and fish and was an expert pistol shooter having won the 1975 National Pistol Shooting Championship. Mike also had the first perfect pistol score of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 17, 2013 in St. Patrick Church with Father Rick Ginther and Monsignor Larry Moran concelebrating. Entombment with Military Honors by VFW Post #972 will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 4:00-8:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be Recited at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 16th in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
