Matthew L. Niemiec, 66, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday evening, January 26, 2016 at Union Hospital. He was a paint and coatings chemist, having worked for Wabash Products for 21 years, and was also a regulatory safety manager at Sun Polymers International, Inc. in Mooresville, Indiana. Matt was born November 17, 1949 in Hammond, Indiana to Frank Niemiec and Gladys Worosz Niemiec.
Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Linda Nawojski Niemiec; two daughters, Nicole Niemiec of Arcadia, CA and Valerie Combs and her husband, Tadd, of Prairieton, IN; two grandchildren, Conard Matthew Combs and Lillian Anne Combs; a brother, John Niemiec and his wife, Paula, of Calumet City, IL; and a sister, Diane Doloszycki and her husband, Steve, of Crown Point, IN. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Rosemary Niemiec of Highland, IN, Catherine Konsynski and her husband, Benn, of Duluth, GA and Maggie Kessler and her husband, James, of Highland, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Mark Niemiec.
Matt was a graduate of Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond and earned his associates and bachelors degrees from Purdue University-Calumet. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the American Chemical Society. Matt loved to read, especially philosophy, science and theology and was a steam locomotive enthusiast.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at St. Benedict Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Matthew Malek, OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 29th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 8:00 P.M. in Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
