Mary Ellen Roberts

April 18, 1930 — January 5, 2017

Mary Ellen Bashaw Whitsit Tomes Roberts, 86, of Terre Haute passed away early Thursday morning, January 5, 2017 at Springhill Village. She had worked at Modern Album for 10 years and later worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Union Hospital for 15 years. Mary Ellen was born April 18, 1930 in Terre Haute to Herman Bashaw and Mary Louise Newman Bashaw.

Survivors include two sons, Michael H. Whitsit and his special friend, Jeanie Graves,, and Donald Lee Whitsit and his wife, Lillian, all of Terre Haute; two daughters, Nancy L. Riggs and her husband Gary, and Billie Jo Clark and her husband Kevin, all of Terre Haute; her beloved sister, Rose Anna Moore of Brazil, IN; and a sister-in-law, Phyliss Bashaw of Brazil. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grand-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Deloris Burge of Tuscon, AZ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri L. Whitsit Cassidy; a grandson, Harty Lee Crow; her "baby brother", Frank Herman "Raindrop" Bashaw; an infant brother, George; and a special niece, Donna Goda.

Mary Ellen was a 1948 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. She enjoyed visiting with her friends and spending time with her children and her sister.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 14, 2017. Please contact Mary Ellen's children for service details and location. Private graveside services will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. There is no visitation. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
