Mary Catherine Meadows Rassel, 80, of Terre Haute passed away early Sunday morning, December 13, 2015 at her home. She was born July 10, 1935 in Terre Haute to Paul Dean Meadows and Edna Pfeiffer Meadows. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Herman Henry Rassel, Jr. on November 25, 2015. Survivors include her; five children, Connie Marrs and her husband, Terry, of Terre Haute, Paula Egan and her husband, Scott, of Terre Haute, Dan Rassel and his wife, Chris, of Russiaville, IN, Dave Rassel and his wife, Susan, of Valparaiso, IN and Herman H. Hank Rassel, III and his wife, Christie, of Greenwood, IN and 14 grandchildren, Jordan Marrs, Brian Marrs, Ashlyn Marrs, Kari Egan, Natalie Egan, Nathan Egan, Collin Rassel, Audrey Rassel, Logan Rassel, Leslee Rassel, Ryan Rassel, Nicholas Rassel, Olivia Rassel and Madeleine Rassel. Also surviving is her sister, Margaret Anne Weust; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by his parents. Mary Catherine was a graduate of St. Patrick High School, earned her Bachelors Degree at Indiana State University and her Masters of Arts in Teaching Degree at DePauw University. A teacher for many years, Mary Catherine taught with the Vigo County Schools including Otter Creek Elementary School and retired in 1981 from St. Patrick School after teaching there for 24 years. She was the 1994 recipient of the Distinguished Graduate Award from NCEA and also received an award from the City of Terre Haute for exceptional action for the safety of the children and school staff while at St. Patrick School. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, member and former president of Chi Omega Alumnae Association and member of Tri Kappa, League of Terre Haute and Sycamore Country Club. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 18, 2015 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 6:00-9:00 P.M. in Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
